Motherhood
An unexpected pregnancy. No idea of what a good mother entails. But, loving and protecting her son Aaron is a good start. Rose's version of motherhood is influenced by the various mothers she's encountered.
Rose's Journey:
Due to living in such a physically and emotionally hostile environment, Rose’s behavior is reactionary and influenced by the people in her life. Support from her community is fractured at best and abysmal at worst. Important themes throughout the series is: the complexity of motherhood, the of importance sisterhood, stigmatization of abuse and getting help, and perseverance. These ideas are explored and deconstructed as Rose grows into her own.
